Na druh\u00e9 stran\u011b je tu jedna jeho velk\u00e1 nev\u00fdhoda oproti jin\u00fdm materi\u00e1l\u016fm, kter\u00e9 by karbon mohl b\u00fdt v pr\u016fmyslu schopen nahradit. Tou je mnohon\u00e1sobn\u011b vy\u0161\u0161\u00ed cena. Karbon neboli karbonov\u00e9 vl\u00e1kno je vl\u00e1kno s vysok\u00fdm obsahem uhl\u00edku v r\u016fzn\u00fdch modifikac\u00edch. Jednotliv\u00e1 vl\u00e1kna maj\u00ed r\u016fzn\u00e9 parametry, tak\u017ee se d\u00e1 sehnat levn\u00fd karbon, kter\u00fd ale nen\u00ed tak pevn\u00fd a lze jej jednodu\u0161e prorazit. Na druh\u00e9 stran\u011b existuje karbon pou\u017e\u00edvan\u00fd v letectv\u00ed, kter\u00fd je ze v\u0161ech nejdra\u017e\u0161\u00ed a samoz\u0159ejm\u011b tak\u00e9 nejpevn\u011bj\u0161\u00ed.  Podle struktury karbonov\u00fdch vl\u00e1ken lze vymezit 3 z\u00e1kladn\u00ed typy: \u00b7 1\/1 Plain carbon, kter\u00fd m\u00e1 \u010dtvercovou strukturu, \u00b7 2\/2 Twill carbon m\u00e1 obd\u00e9ln\u00edkovou strukturu, \u00b7 Forged carbon nem\u00e1 vlastn\u011b \u017e\u00e1dnou strukturu, vl\u00e1kna jsou um\u00edst\u011bna zcela n\u00e1hodn\u011b. Zat\u00edmco prvn\u00ed dva druhy se pou\u017e\u00edvaj\u00ed na v\u00fdrobu dopl\u0148k\u016f, proto\u017ee sv\u00fdm vzhledem p\u0159ipom\u00ednaj\u00ed l\u00e1tku a celkov\u011b vypadaj\u00ed exkluzivn\u011b, posledn\u00ed druh si na\u0161el velkou oblibu v automobilov\u00e9m pr\u016fmyslu. V automobilov\u00e9m pr\u016fmyslu m\u00e1 karbonov\u00e9 vl\u00e1kno velkou budoucnost. St\u00e1le \u010dast\u011bji se toti\u017e za\u010d\u00edn\u00e1 pou\u017e\u00edvat jako hlavn\u00ed stavebn\u00ed prvek karos\u00e9rie. Oproti oceli se karbon toti\u017e nemus\u00ed sva\u0159ovat a nen\u00ed na n\u011bj pot\u0159eba nan\u00e1\u0161et antikorozn\u00ed ochranu. Karos\u00e9rie z plast\u016f tvrzen\u00fdch karbonov\u00fdmi vl\u00e1kny (CFRT materi\u00e1l) je schopn\u00e1 sn\u00e1\u0161et men\u0161\u00ed n\u00e1razy bez po\u0161kozen\u00ed, p\u0159i v\u011bt\u0161\u00edm n\u00e1razu lze karoserii nav\u00edc lehce opravit. Snad jedinou nev\u00fdhodou CRFT je vysok\u00e1 v\u00fdrobn\u00ed cena, kter\u00e1 ale postupem \u010dasu s rozvojem v\u00fdrobn\u00edch technologi\u00ed za\u010d\u00edn\u00e1 klesat. CFRP je materi\u00e1lem budoucnosti.
